How can i edit an .flv file in windows movie maker?

when downloading youtube videos i have to do so in .flv b/c for some reason i can not see the videos once i download them, if they are .mp4 or .wmv etc.

but windows movie maker does not take .flv, how can i edit the .flv videos that i have in movie maker?
