I am looking for software - free (or free trial that can be purchased if it works for me). I want to edit downloaded flash files (eg take 5 minutes from a 15 minute video) and make a DVD for a domestic DVD player.
I also want to string a number of flash files onto one DVD.

A real bonus (but not essential) would be if it could also cope with UK & USA .VOB files.

Try out VLC media player. You can play and convert almost any video format with it.

I would guess that the reason no one else has made an FLV editor is because generally the workflow is to edit the original clip in its native format, and then export to flv. FLV might be a common output format, but I have never heard of anyone editing in that format. We use flv solely as a compressed output format for the purpose of loading our video into flash player. Editing in flv is a bad idea for the same reason as editing in any compressed format is - you want to edit the source and then compress on output to maintain the best possible quality.

This guide is to tell you the way to edit FLV with Moyea FLV Editor Lite Beta free.

Input FLV

Import FLV (from Media Library): You will open the Media Library of Moyea YouTube FLV Downloader to import FLV files you downloaded. Still, you can import multiple FLV files to Resource List.

Import (from IE Cache): You will launch the IE Cache import window. All FLV videos in your IE cache will be shown. You can check multiple FLV files here and import the FLVs to Resource List.

Import MP3: You are even able to import and edit MP3 audio files. It enables you to make your own MTV.

Preview FLV

From Resource List: Once the FLV files are imported to resource list, you can double click an FLV on the list to play.

From Timeline: To play FLV on Timeline, you can click the play button on Preview pane.

Edit FLV

To edit FLV, you just need to drag the specific FLV file or files to Timeline. With the buttons on Timeline Toolbar, you can edit FLVs freely.

Link: Select the unlinked FLV video and audio with the help of "Ctrl" on keyboard, you can link move them together.

Unlink: By clicking this button, you can rip video and audio of a selected FLV file on Timeline.

Scissor: While the FLV on Timeline is playing, you can click this button to cut the FLV at the point where it’s playing. Or you can drag the pointer to the right time point and cut.

Delete: You can delete any selected part on Timeline, video, audio, or the whole FLV file.

Clear: Click the clear button and you can clear all clips on Timeline.

Export FLV

Still there are several ways to export FLV. No matter how many FLV clips are on the Timeline, they will be exported as a single FLV file. If the file on Timeline is an MP3, it will be exported as FLV audio.

Export FLV: Click to launch the export dialog box and you can set export folder, file name, export type, and way to export the FLV.

Export FLV (to FLV to Video Converter Pro 2): Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro 2 will be launched with the FLV file in list. If the converter is not installed, you will be directed to the site for download. The exported FLV will be placed in folder where you can change by selecting "Option> Preferences".

Export FLV (to Media Library): Moyea YouTube FLV Downloader Library will be launched with the exported FLV in list. Still, the exported FLV will be placed in folder where you can change by selecting "Option> Preferences".

Layout and help

With the option of Window on Main Menu, you can set the FLV editor to show player only, hide Resource, or hide Timeline.

How to trim FLV

Put the mouse into the border and the arrow mark will appear. Drag it to make the video length shorter. During this process, you can see the hint about the starting time, ending time and the whole duration.

How to cut the video into several parts.

Yesterday, I downloaded two .flv video from YouTube and suddenly I had an interesting idea. I want to merge the two videos into one and replace the audio with my favorite song Hotel California. But first I need a FLV editor to help me and luckily I find a wonderful free software FLV Editor Lite Beta. This application has great power of editing .flv files like trim FLV, cut FLV, split FLV, merge FLV and replace the original audio of FLV.

Here I will tell you how to make an interesting MTV by your self.

Step1. Download and launch FLV Editor Lite Beta.

After you install and launch it you can this interface.

Step2. Input FLV

You can input your .flv file into this software with 6 ways. Please check the following image (from left to right).

1 Open FLV: You can input FLV to Resource List and Timeline. Only one FLV file can be open at one time. And if there are other files on Resource List or Timeline, this file will replace all the previous ones.

Step3. Trim FLV files on timeline

After imported the two .flv files, we can see this interface.

Double click the thumbnail then you can see the video in the preview window on the right side. And you can just drag the .flv into timeline (in red) for further editing.

After drag the file in the timeline, I will cut a little piece of it because I don’t want the head which just black. Choose the proper time point with the little diamond button and click the scissor button

As you see the video has been cut to two pieces, and then choose the head section click delete button delete.jpg, this piece will be trimmed successfully. Trim the last part too, now this video only rest 3 minutes and 20 seconds.

Step4. Merge FLV.

Drag the other .flv into the timeline, and you can see they are linked as one. By choose the magnet button magnet.jpg you can link these two video clips easier.

Step5. Split the audio from the video and replace it with .mp3

Choose these two videos and click unlink button separately to split the audio from the video.

Delete the audio only and input the .mp3 file and trim the unnecessary video.

Step6. Export FLV

After all the edit things, now we can export our own FLV file by click export FLV (in red).

In the dialogue box we can modify the export folder and export file name, and then click Start to export it.

Here I should notice you that if you choose Export FLV (to FLV to Video Converter Pro 2) pro2.jpg, you need to installed Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro 2 firstly and then the exported video will be inputted into it. With the converter you can continue to convert the .flv file to other video format like .avi, .3gp, .mov, .mpeg etc.

Drag the audio to the right place under the video clips. Click the play button on Preview Pane, you can real-time preview the effect.

Please make sure the button is enabled, so that you can attach one clip exactly to the edge of another clip. Besides, the FLV video clips should be attached tightly, or there will be black frames in the video interval.

Tips:

On the Timeline Toolbar, there are several buttons to edit the FLV file. You can click the Link button to join the files, so that you can move them together. To split them, you can click the Unlink button.
If you are making a video album with several FLV clips, and would like to replace the audio, you can select the file on Timeline and click Unlink to rip the FLV audio and video. And then, you can delete the original FLV audio and import a new FLV audio or MP3.
To delete the unwanted parts, you can use Scissor button to cut and click “X” to delete the selected part.
You can trim the FLV by dragging the trimmer at the start or end of the files on Timeline.

Here I will tell you how to make an interesting MTV by your self.

Step1. Download and launch FLV Editor Lite Beta.

After you install and launch it you can this interface.

Step2. Input FLV

You can input your .flv file into this software with 6 ways. Please check the following image (from left to right).

2 Open FLV (from Media Library): You can input an FLV file from Moyea YouTube FLV Downloader Library to Resource List and Timeline. (Not available in this Beta version.)

4 Import FLV: You can import many FLV files at one time from My Computer to Resource List. The previous inputted FLV files will not be replaced.

5 Import FLV (from Media Library): You will open the Media Library of Moyea YouTube FLV Downloader to import FLV files you downloaded. Still, you can import multiple FLV files to Resource List.

6 Import (from IE Cache): You will launch the IE Cache import window. All FLV videos in your IE cache will be shown. You can check multiple FLV files here and import the FLVs to Resource List.

7 Import MP3: You are even able to import and edit MP3 audio files. It enables you to make your own MTV.

Step3. Trim FLV files on timeline

After imported the two .flv files, we can see this interface.

Double click the thumbnail then you can see the video in the preview window on the right side. And you can just drag the .flv into timeline (in red) for further editing.

Step4. Merge FLV.

Drag the other .flv into the timeline, and you can see they are linked as one. By choose the magnet button magnet.jpg you can link these two video clips easier.

Step5. Split the audio from the video and replace it with .mp3

Choose these two videos and click unlink button separately to split the audio from the video.

Delete the audio only and input the .mp3 file and trim the unnecessary video.

Step6. Export FLV

After all the edit things, now we can export our own FLV file by click export FLV (in red).

In the dialogue box we can modify the export folder and export file name, and then click Start to export it.

Import FLV files for edit.

You can import your local FLV files by selecting the Import FLV button. (It is not recommended to choose Open FLV button, since only single file is allowed to open at one time.)

You can also import from your IE Cache by clicking Import FLV (from IE Cache button). By clicking FLV on the list, you can preview the FLV before importing.

Edit FLV---join FLV files into a single FLV.

All files selected will be placed in Resource List of the FLV editor, also FLV joiner. You can double click the FLV on the list to preview.

Drag the FLV files to Timeline one by one for editing. By clicking the Play button on preview pane, you can play the FLV files on Timeline.

Tips:

On the Timeline Toolbar, there are several buttons to edit the FLV file. You can click the Link button to join the files, so that you can move them together. To split them, you can click the Unlink button.
If you are making a video album with several FLV clips, and would like to replace the audio, you can select the file on Timeline and click Unlink to rip the FLV audio and video. And then, you can delete the original FLV audio and import a new FLV audio or MP3.
To delete the unwanted parts, you can use Scissor button to cut and click “X” to delete the selected part.
